The geneticist called the father of India's Green Revolution. Swaminathan brought Borlaug and his dwarf wheats to India in the 1960s, adapted them to Indian conditions, and helped turn a country living ship-to-mouth on food aid into a grain exporter. He spent his later decades arguing for an evergreen revolution: the yields kept, the ecological costs not repeated.
