The English gentleman farmer whose 1701 seed drill and horse-drawn hoe made row cultivation practical, emblems of the British Agricultural Revolution. Tull's theory was largely wrong, he distrusted manure and believed tillage itself fed plants, but his machines were right, and the drill's straight rows changed field farming permanently. Not the rock band, which took his name.
