Planting straight into last year's stubble without ploughing, so the soil keeps its structure, its moisture and its carbon. No-till spread after the Dust Bowl taught what bare, broken soil does in a drought, and after herbicides and specialized seed drills made it practical at scale; it now covers a large share of grain land in the Americas and Australia.
